Inaugural National Energy Efficiency Conference (NEEC) & Energy Efficiency National Partnership (EENP) Awards Ceremony 2011

NEEC

The inaugural National Energy Efficiency Conference (NEEC) was organised by National Environment Agency (NEA), in partnership with Economic Development Board (EDB) and Energy Market Authority (EMA), to provide thought leadership in energy efficiency by bringing together energy efficiency experts and industry energy professionals, by sharing best practices and case studies. The Conference was held from 24 to 25 May 2011.

In his welcome address, CEO (NEA), Mr Andrew Tan, encouraged companies to implement energy management systems to meet the requirements of the upcoming Energy Conservation Act in 2013. He said, "Overseas experiences suggest that companies with structured systems and processes in place to manage energy can typically expect to reduce their energy consumption by at least 10 to 15% during the first year of implementation of an energy management system, with many companies being able to achieve even larger reductions."

At the opening of the NEEC, the Guest-of-Honour, Minister for Environment and Water Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, stressed the importance of energy efficiency and announced that additional funding of $22.8 million would be made available for the Grant for Energy Efficient Technologies (GREET) scheme. He said, "Improving energy efficiency will minimise energy wastage, cut costs for companies and consumers, reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and contribute to overall economic competitiveness."

Mr Pasquale Pistorio, the Honorary Chairman and former CEO of STMicroelectronics and a staunch advocate of environmental protection and corporate social responsibility, kicked-off the Conference with a keynote address. He emphasized that energy efficiency was a low hanging fruit and it was important for corporations and government institutions to work together to promote energy efficiency. Participants at the Conference found the presentations highly useful and brought back several ideas that they could implement in their organisations and facilities.

On 23 May 2011, NEA also conducted two half-day pre-conference workshops which focused on the strategies and design practices for building sustainable, high performance and low-energy facilities such as laboratories and clean rooms.
