Buildings
Energy efficiency is one of the main considerations in the assessment of a building's environmental credentials. Energy efficient buildings enjoy substantial energy cost savings compared to the average building because the energy cost is often the largest component of a building's total operating cost.
Building facilities may achieve better energy efficiency through the following means:
- Adopt Efficient Design
- Conduct Energy Appraisals
- Implement Energy Efficiency Projects, possibly through Performance Contracting.
Here are some resources that companies can tap on to help achieve better energy performance:
Buildings that display good energy performance may qualify for one or both building recognition schemes currently available in Singapore:
- Energy Smart Building Label
The Energy Smart Labelling Scheme aims to promote the active management of energy use by according recognition to buildings that are ranked in the top 25% of the total building cohort in terms of energy performance. Presently, the Scheme is available for office and hotel buildings. Find out more about Energy Smart.
- Green Mark
The BCA Green Mark Scheme aims to promote sustainable development in the building sector by according recognition to developers and building owners who build and maintain buildings that are environment-friendly and energy-efficient. The Scheme is available to both new and existing buildings. Find out more about Green Mark.
