How to Enable Energy-Saving Features on Your Computer
Step 1: Click on the "Start" button at the bottom left of the computer screen and click on "Control Panel".
Step 2: Double click on the "Power Options" icon in your Control Panel.
Step 3: Click on the "Power Schemes" tab.
Step 4: Set the time duration of inactivity after which your monitor will be turned off, when your computer is plugged in. When the monitor is turned off, it can be instantaneously turned on at the movement of a mouse or taping of any key.
Step 5: Go on to set the time duration of inactivity after which the computer will turn off hard disks, go on system standby and hibernate (energy saving modes) when your computer is plugged in.
Step 6: Set the time duration of inactivity for the same energy saving modes when your computer is running on batteries. You may wish to specify a shorter time duration here to conserve energy in the batteries.
Step 7: Click on the "Apply" button after you have finished setting all the time durations, and close the window. The energy saving mode is now activated for your computer.
