Singapore's 1st Intelligent Lighting Control & Monitoring System for Public Housing
Description of project
An Intelligent Lighting Control Management System (LMS) was test-bedded at 2 HDB blocks at Clementi, with the goals of reducing energy consumption and improving site management control through pro-active maintenance The LMS adjusted the illumination level of common corridor lighting via a remote PC.
Pre-trial Situation
- Excessive lighting level in low usage area
- Lamps needed to be inspected regularly
- No efficient way to monitor burning hours of lamp for pro-active maintenance
Aims of Project
- Provide latest energy saving lamps & high frequency Intelligent dual-wattage ballasts
- Enable flexible timing commands to turn lights on/off/dim
- Allow remote monitoring and control
- Provide management report on downtime and running hours of lamps for better control of resources
- Enhance labour productivity & reduce manpower requirements
The project aimed to implement energy efficient lighting management through the innovative use of a lighting control system, which although deployed overseas, was not yet tested in Singapore.
Outcomes of Project:
Implementation of the LMS reduced lighting energy consumption for each HDB block by 70% This translates to about $1300 savings per year. The LMS also made it possible to detect and pinpoint defective lamps in real time.
