Energy Challenge Fair 2009
As part of the 10% Energy Challenge, the National Environment Agency (NEA) organised an Energy Challenge Week on 5 – 13 September 2009. Over this week, energy efficiency-focused community events were organised all over Singapore to raise awareness on energy efficiency. The Energy Challenge Week culminated in the Energy Challenge Fair 2009 at the Marina Square Central Atrium on 11 – 13 September 2009. The Senior Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Environment, Dr Amy Khor, was the Guest-of-Honour.

A Voluntary Agreement (VA) on energy efficient appliances with retailers and suppliers of household appliances was launched at the Energy Challenge Fair (ECF) 2009. The VA aims to increase the availability and affordability of energy efficient appliances in the market. So far, 16 companies had signed the VA to be 10% Energy Challenge Partners. |

At the ECF 2009, the public was able to browse through a wide range of energy saving household appliances from 23 companies and enjoy special offers. The products ranged from energy efficient air-conditioners and refrigerators to thermal pots, electricity monitors and even solar chargers!
One company commented "The Energy Challenge Fair created awareness of energy savings for our thermal cooker." Another said, "This is the first time our products have been viewed by the public in Singapore and the response was excellent."

Besides being able to shop for products, the public was also able to walk through an energy efficient concept home, which informed the public of the many ways in which they can save energy and money at home. There were also booths from NEA, HDB and HDB), the Energy Market Authority (EMA), and the National Library Board (NLB) with information, brochures and books on energy conservation.

Many members of the public found the fair very informative and said they would visit the fair again. In response to feedback received, Energy Challenge Fair 2010 promises to include even more exhibitors and a greater variety of products. So watch out for ECF 2010! |
