Launch of Climate Change Exhibition at the Science Centre
How will climate change affect your life? Why is the climate changing? What exactly is climate change?
You will find those answers and more by visiting the new Climate Change Exhibition at the Science Centre. Launched by Minister, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim on 16 May 08, the exhibition is a collaboration between NEA, Science Centre Singapore and the Shell Companies in Singapore.

The exhibition will be a permanent fixture at the Centre until 2013. It showcases local content and a collection of exhibits from science institutions all over the world, such as the Marian Koshland Science Museum in Washington DC, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Japan, the Interactive Institute in Sweden, as well as Science North in Canada. Among the highlights is an award-winning Climate Change Show, a 20-minute, multi-sensory experience that drives home the serious issues of climate change in a humorous and exciting way, through visual and physical special effects. Narrated by Sheepie, a talking, animated sheep wearing rubber boots, this show will educate visitors on how and why our Earth is changing. We can promote the understanding of climate change and educating our public, especially the young, on the science of climate change. With better understanding, our people can appreciate better the consequences of our daily decisions, actions and activities, and have a clearer idea on what each of us can do to help tackle this global problem," said Mr Lee Yuen Hee, CEO NEA in his address. |
NEA has adopted a 3P Partnership approach to enhance the outreach and experience of the exhibition. Six schools - Princess Elizabeth Primary, Commonwealth Secondary, Hwa Chong Institution, Marsiling Secondary, Nan Hua High and Woodgrove Secondary - have come forward to partner NEA as Champions of the Climate Change exhibition, in which Environment Champions from the schools have been trained to guide their schools and visitors through the Climate Change Exhibition. In the long term, Environment Champions from every primary and secondary school will also be involved as guides for the exhibition.
Through various interactive and thought-provoking exhibits, visitors are set to leave with not only a greater understanding of climate change, but also with the resolve to take personal action at home and the workplace to conserve energy, and hence mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases.
